Dane County Executive Joe Parisi today announced the approval of $16,790 in grant awards through the Dane County Environmental Council’s Community Partners Program and Capital Equipment for 18 projects that will restore natural areas and promote conservation throughout the county.
”These grants provide funds to local, dedicated conservation groups and communities who accomplish important restoration work throughout Dane County,” said Parisi. “Their efforts contribute greatly to the health of our environment and the outdoor enjoyment of all of our citizens.”
The Dane County Environmental Council Grants award funding to a diverse group of nonprofit community organizations, school districts, and municipalities. All of the projects must take place in Dane County and provide a benefit to Dane County natural resources and residents.
Examples of this year’s projects include aquatic invasive species control at community parks, wetland restoration, environmental education and awareness, equipment purchases to manage invasive plants, and interpretive signage at natural areas and parks. These projects would likely not happen without the assistance from the Community Partners Program and the Capital Equipment grant program. (A complete list and description of award winners is attached).
Funding for these grants is provided through Dane County’s Land and Water Legacy Initiative and generous donations from local businesses. Most grant recipients also provide matching funds in order to complete their projects.
The Dane County Environmental Council is a seven-member panel appointed by Parisi and confirmed by the County Board. The Council assists groups in recognizing and protecting natural areas in Dane County and assumes an educational role in the awareness, conservation and protection of the environment.
