Resurfacing, Reconstruction Work Complete; Road Re-opens July 30th
(Madison)….Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk announced today major improvements have been completed on Highway I-D and the road will re-open on Wednesday, July 30th.
“Motorists will benefit from not only a smoother ride but also safety enhancements including additional turn lanes at intersections,” Falk said.
Highway I-D links Mount Horeb and Blue Mounds and is frequently traveled by tourists visiting attractions like Blue Mounds State Park, Brigham County Park, Cave of the Mounds, Little Norway and Tyrol Basin. Nearly 2300 motorists use the five-mile stretch of Highway I-D daily.
"We've been patient and are now rewarded with a road that's better designed, better built & safer than ever," District 30 County Board Supervisor Pat Downing said.
Falk and Downing worked to ensure this year’s county budget included funding for the work on Highway I-D.
Initial bids for the project last fall came in over budget. After a competitive bidding process was reopened this winter, Dane County selected a bid from B.R. Amon and Sons out of Elkhorn at a savings of nearly a half million dollars to county taxpayers.
The project was paid for through a combination of $1.8-million in county, state, and federal funding.
