Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk today announced that the apparent low bidder in the second round of bidding on the Dane County Courthouse construction project has come in under the project’s $31,484,034 million budget. “Taxpayers expect us to hold the line on spending,” said Falk. “I’m happy to report that we’ve taken the steps to keep the courthouse project on time and on budget.” In the bid opening Monday (March 3) Miron Construction of Neenah submitted the apparent low base bid of $30,487,000. Falk, Chief Judge Michael Nowakowski and County Board Chair Kevin Kesterson last month rejected the initial bids that came in over-budget last month. Based on revised project specifications, the second round of bids came in lower. In addition to Miron’s bid of $30,487,000 the county will also pay $929,845 for carpeting. Falk explained that it was less expensive for the county to purchase the carpeting directly, rather than have it included in the construction contractor’s bid. The total amount is $67,189 under budget. Other bids received on the project were $31,187,000 from Findorff of Madison; $31,488,153 from JP Cullen & Sons, Inc. of Janesville, and $33,400,000 from Tri-North Builders of Madison. A Resolution approving the bid for construction of the courthouse is planned to be before the Dane County Board of Supervisors this Thursday. # # #
