Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk today announced the selection of Lynn Green as the new Director of the Dane County Department of Human Services (DCHS), pending County Board approval.
Green, 56, has worked for DCHS for 30 years, starting her career there in 1972 as a social worker. Since March 2000, Green has served as administrator for the Division of Children Youth and Families, overseeing 172 county staff with a budget of $49 million.
“I am very pleased that Lynn will be leading the department. Her depth of experience, strong credentials in human services policy, and budget know-how make her an ideal choice,” said Falk. “She has earned the respect of the staff, and is the right person to lead the department during these challenging budget times.” The Human Services Department accounts for half of the county’s $385 million budget.
The Human Services Director position became vacant earlier this year when Charity Eleson left to accept a position with the Wisconsin Technical College System. Former DCHS Director Susan Crowley has served as interim director.
“I believe strongly that human services programming needs to be client centered and community based,” said Green. “This results in services that better meet the needs of citizens in their community. It is also more efficient and saves money. I am happy to accept the County Executive’s appointment, and look forward to the challenge.”
Green holds a Masters in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is the recipient of the Dane County Juvenile Court Ervin Bruner Award for Outstanding Service, and earned an honorary award from the UW-Madison School of Social Work for her commitment to furthering education in the field.
Green, who will sign a five-year contract, will be paid $90,000.
