DANE COUNTY — County Executive Melissa Agard today recognized Veterans Day and expressed gratitude to the veterans, service members, and military families who call Dane County home. She also highlighted the year-round work of the Dane County Veterans Service Office, which connects veterans and their families with the benefits, resources, and community support they have earned.

“On Veterans Day we pause to honor the courage, sacrifice, and service of those who wore our nation’s uniform,” said County Executive Agard. “In Dane County we match our gratitude with action. Our Veterans Service Office stands ready every day to help veterans and their families access health care, education and training, housing supports, and other benefits. We are committed to meeting veterans where they are and making sure no one has to navigate these systems alone.”

The Dane County Veterans Service Office provides no-cost, confidential assistance to veterans, survivors, and dependents, including:

  • Assistance in determining eligibility for and applying to local, state, and federal veterans benefits, including comprehensive disability claims assistance and representation
  • Enrollment support for veterans and their dependents, including VA health care and related veteran-services programs.
  • “Vets Ride with Pride” free bus-pass program for eligible veterans.
  • Sale of grave or memorial-site flag holders for families or friends of deceased veterans.
  • Walk-in and scheduled appointment services, with walk-in hours on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and appointments available at other times.

“Our Veterans Service Office is a trusted front door for those who served,” Agard said. “If you or a loved one has questions about benefits or needs support, please reach out. Dane County is here for you.”
