Madison, WI – The airfield maintenance building is the second facility at Dane County Regional Airport to be awarded LEED certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. The 58,000 square foot building is now one of the largest in the region to attain LEED Gold. The parking exit plaza was awarded LEED Silver certification in 2009.
The facility achieved LEED Gold through their efforts and continuous commitment to sustainable operations, which include: a rooftop solar array, geothermal heating and cooling, rooftop skylights, and was a zero waste to landfill project during construction.
"Dane County has a commitment to sustainability in all of our facilities and we're especially proud of the trailblazing programs being done at the Dane County Regional Airport," said Dane County Executive Joe Parisi. "This forward thinking is ensuring that sustainability is a top priority.
LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is the recognized standard for measuring building sustainability. The LEED green building rating system, developed and administered by the U.S. Green Building Council, is intended to promote designs that reduce the environmental impacts of a building and improve the health and well-being of its occupants.
The Dane County Regional Airport views environmental sustainability and responsibility as an integral part of its operational plan. The airport’s EcoMentality© program is committed to reducing its contribution to global warming, improving air and water quality, reducing the impact of noise, and improving and preserving natural resources.
Bradley S. Livingston, AAE, Airport Director said "The achievement of LEED Gold continues our commitment to sustainability. The magnitude of this facility's sustainable initiatives are impressive and will serve as an example for others to follow.”
