Madison – Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk today released her 2006 budget requirements to county elected officials, the County Board and county department heads. Falk’s memo calls for a requirement to cut costs or raise non-tax revenue by 1.5% for the county’s larger departments (those departments with budgets over $2 million in budgeted General Purpose Revenue for 2005) and .75% for smaller departments and programs.
“With these controls on the budget, Dane County will be able to continue serving citizens with a high level of quality services while limiting property taxes for citizens,” said Falk. “I am confident that working with the county board, we will be able to overcome the difficulties of the state and federal budget and deliver a fiscally sound budget for the citizens of Dane County.”
County department heads will work on their budgets over the next few months and submit them to the County Executive. The County Executive will present her budget to the County Board October 1, 2005.
The budget memo is attached.
