Madison, WI — With a significant snowstorm set to impact the region tomorrow, Dane County Executive Melissa Agard assures residents that county departments are fully prepared to respond. From road maintenance to emergency management, the county is mobilized to keep the community safe and services running smoothly.
“Dane County is prepared for the first significant snow event of the season. Our dedicated public servants across multiple departments have been working around the clock to ensure that roads remain safe, emergency services are available, and our residents have the resources they need,” said County Executive Agard. “We urge everyone to take precautions, limit travel if possible, and check in on neighbors as we navigate this winter weather together.”
“The snow might bring some challenges, but Dane County is ready,” Agard added. “Our snowplows, salt trucks, and other equipment are in top condition, and our staff is on standby to keep our roads clear and safe. Our crews have been monitoring the forecast and are ready to begin clearing roads as soon as the snow starts falling. We know that the first significant snowfall can often catch people by surprise—especially when we’ve had an unusually snow-free season like this year.”
Agard urged residents to prepare for the storm. “If you can, stay home during the heaviest snow. This will allow our plows to do their work and ensure our roads are safe during this snow event,” she said. “And if you must travel, give yourself extra time to get where you’re going, drive slowly, and always keep your distance from snow plows and other vehicles.”
She also advised residents to ensure their homes and vehicles are winter-ready. “At home, make sure your vehicle is equipped with good tires and an emergency kit, and take a moment to check your home for any areas that may need additional weatherproofing,” she said. “Keep extra blankets, flashlights, and batteries on hand in case of power outages.”
“Dane County is also focused on supporting our most vulnerable residents,” Agard emphasized. “We’ll be monitoring temperatures and conditions, especially for those who rely on shelters or other support services. If you or someone you know is in need, please reach out.”
“The key to getting through winter weather safely is preparation and awareness,” Agard concluded. “Our county staff is ready, and now it’s up to all of us to stay informed and take precautions as we head into the winter season.”
