The Dane County Sheriff’s Office will be referring a Disorderly Conduct charge to the Dane County District Attorney’s Office after a minor’s actions resulted in a one-day closing of the Wisconsin Heights School District.

On Friday, January 24th, the school district canceled classes after receiving information about a potential threat. Sheriff’s deputies worked closely with school staff and the Office of School Safety to thoroughly investigate the matter. The investigation ultimately determined that there was no immediate danger at the school.

"While it was confirmed that no threat existed, the actions of those involved had a significant impact on the students, staff, and parents in our community," said Sheriff Kalvin Barrett, Dane County Sheriff. "Ensuring the safety and sense of security in our schools is of utmost importance, and behavior that disrupts that safety will be taken seriously."

As a result of the investigation, a high school student will face a Disorderly Conduct charge for their role in creating unnecessary alarm. The Dane County Sheriff’s Office will continue to work with local schools to maintain safe and supportive learning environments for all students.
