Amended 2025 Budget heads to the County Board

October 22, 2024
County Board Chair Patrick Miles, (608) 886-9167
County Board

Dane County’s Personnel and Finance Committee met last night to review and make a recommendation for the County Board on the 2025 Dane County Budget. At the meeting, the committee approved amendments to the budget as proposed by County Executive Kuhn.

“I appreciate all of the time and effort spent by the public, staff, and supervisors to ensure our community’s most pressing needs were elevated during the budget process,” said Supervisor Elizabeth Doyle (District 1), Chair of the Personnel and Finance Committee. “It was a difficult task to prioritize recommendations as every request was thoughtfully made, but I am proud of the work of the Personnel and Finance Committee and the Board’s standing committees under the current funding constraints.”

The County Board will now hold one last budget hearing for public comments on the budget as recommended by the Personnel and Finance Committee. The hearing will take place on October 28 at 6:00 pm. Members of the public who would like to speak at the hearing can register with the information at the top of the agenda that will be available mid-week. The agenda will be available on the County’s Legislative Information Center: https://dane.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx.

Key amendments to the budget proposal recommended by Personnel and Finance include:

  • Two positions in the DA’s Office to improve the Deferred Prosecution program.
  • Position in the Planning and Development Department to move the Regional Housing Strategy initiative forward, supported by $75,000 for marketing, outreach, and public engagement.
  • Program Leader position for the Department of Human Services’ Joining Forces for Families (JFF) to serve as an additional Housing Navigator, as well as providing JFF with $30,285 to contribute towards reducing housing barriers for Dane County residents.
  • Additional $10 million in capital for affordable housing development funding.
  • Spanish Medical Interpreter position for the Department of Human Services.
  • Additional $55,000 for the rapid rehousing contract with Salvation Army for case management due to decreased United Way funding.
