Today, acting County Executive Patrick Miles expressed his sincere gratitude to municipal clerks throughout the Dane County area, as part of Professional Municipal Clerks Week. Professional municipal clerks have faced unprecedented challenges in recent years from efforts to undermine elections and election administrators. These public service employees play a critical role in the preservation of our democracy.

“We are grateful for our municipal clerks’ resilience in carrying out their duties to preserve the integrity of our records and our election process in the Dane County community,” said acting County Executive Miles. “Their commitment to maintaining safe and fair elections keeps our democracy intact and ensures the people’s voice is heard.”

Professional municipal clerks act as the official record keepers of their local units of government. They also provide vital support in administering elections. These duties can range from preparing ballots and training election officials to tabulating and certifying election results.

“We are so fortunate to have professional, hardworking municipal clerks in Dane County. They are quietly the backbone of our democracy,” said Dane County Clerk Scott McDonnel. “They display courage and resilience at a difficult time in our history. We cannot thank them enough for what they do to make local government run.”
