County Board to Recognize Operation Green Light for Veterans

At Thursday’s County Board meeting, the Board will recognize a resolution in support of Operation Green Light for Veterans.  Dane County will join other counties, parishes, and boroughs across the country in support of Operation Green Light for Veterans to show support and appreciation for veterans. 

The resolution encourages residents to display green lights in a window of their residence or business from November 6th through the 12th to let veterans know they are seen, appreciated, and supported as well as to honor all those who made sacrifices to preserve freedom. 

“Operation Green Light is a subtle, yet unique, opportunity for us to show support for those actively serving in our Nation’s military and for our veterans.  I encourage all who can to participate,” said Dan Connery, Dane County Veterans Service Director.

“Our veterans have given so much to our country and our community.  Operation Green Light for Veterans is a way for us to show our support and appreciation to all of those who have or are serving our country,” said County Board Chair Patrick Miles (District 34).  

According to the resolution, approximately 200,000 service members transition to civilian communities annually and an estimated 240,000 service members will transition to civilian life in the near future. 
 
Operation Green Light for Veterans is coinciding with Veterans Day, November 11, which is a federal holiday observed annually for honoring veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces.

County Board Supervisor Dave Ripp (District 29) remarked that “so many veterans were received home with hate.  They served their country, even though they didn't always 100% agree with the politics.  They deserve our support and thanks."
  
Also at Thursday’s meeting the Board will recognize November as Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.  The month is meant to raise awareness about pancreatic cancer, one of the deadliest and least understood forms of cancer.  It is estimated that 64,050 adults in the United States will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and an estimated 50,550 deaths from the disease will occur this year.
